Great scanner. Thanks for bringing it to your viewers' attention.

It would have been helpful to know that it won't work with Mac's. Maybe you could mention Mac compatibility issues when you show hardware.

Happily in this case there's a Mac version,

Unboxing the HP dv9000t

| | Comments (123)

*** Visit Neo-Fight.tv for the a video overview of this laptop in November ***

Next month we'll be reviewing HP's new Core 2 Duo Flagship, the dv9000t. Our review unit came in to my home the other day, so I thought I'd do a little unboxing for you, to help you get an idea of how nice HP's new laptop really is.

My previous unit was an Acer TravelMate 8200, which is only marginally smaller, even with the HP's 17" screen.

The specs on this unit are:

Core 2 Duo 7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB cache)
2GB RAM, 240GB dual hard drives
17" Ultra-brite monitor (1650x1050)
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Webcam, etc...

...basically, the unit is loaded...

So.... starting at the beginning, here's the box it arrived in...(more....)

Wow! thats a very nice laptop, and with great features for the future... i´ll check prices. Thanks for the review!

would it be possible for you to post size comparison pics with the Acer 8200? thanks.

Check out Office Depot right now ! They have great deals on these babies ( but only until Sep. 30th !!

I just went to a store and ordered one ( they still have to ship it, but you get to choose various upgrades not available on there web site ).

The base price ( after rebates is as low as 499 ! mine came in at just over $740 with 1.6GHZ Turon x2 ( 512 cache ) 1gb ram, extra high res display, remote control, free HP printer..blah..blah... :)

Thermalfish said:

Much appreciate all the pics and commentary. I am very interested as to what the quality of the audio is when the osundcard is plugged in to a hi-fi sound system or the like. My dv8000 has terrible audio... mechanical noise, his, whine and distorted output. My retailer are replacing it with a DV9000! So hopefully the issue has been resolved with the new model.
Any comments to this effect would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again for the review.

Steve C. said:

To Thermalfish, laptops never have very good sound but it can be improved by going to an external USB sound adapter.

Thermalfish said:

To Steve C, I have owned ten laptops in ten years and none have had good sound, but none have had quality even nearly as bad as this DV8000. Anyway, the HP tech has agreed it was a hardware fault on the original and the replacement I was given. Looking forward to the DV9000 (australian model. Should be arriving today.

Like your laptop. I am hoping to purchase one during a Columbus Day Sale. I was wondering if you got yours from the internet. I would like the best price possible and was wondering where to look for deals. I was also wondering if there is an option to have the same exact laptop with a 15 inch display. I want the core 2 duo, but have not seen it with smaller displays.
Also is there anything I can do to locate the laptop in case it is stolen or misplaced? Any ideas? Thanks

Tobias said:

Thank you for posting such nice pics and commenting! I've ordered a identical computer myself, and im looking forward to getting it. Too bad it's in the end of november...

markoiron said:

I'm considering this lap top, but I am wondering if its a solid investment. Do you think it will hold up a few years? Or do you think somethings going to crap out on it by then?

Thanks.

Hieu Nguyen said:

I own one myself, just bought it a week ago. I LOVE IT! It does everything I want it to and and does it with style. From heavy duty gaming to using AutoCAD, it gets the job done! Battery power is good, 2-3 hours, depending on what u r doing. As for the cosmetics, you can see yourself that it is very attractive. The system can handle crazy multitasking thanks to its dual core processor. Even though the companies have decided to slow down on the research for a better single core processor, putting dual core on one die is not a bad idea. Anyways, anyone who wants their laptop to be the envy of their friends and family should get this one. It is affordable (got mine for only around 1500) and it is practical. This laptop is a steal compared to the customizable ones found at other websites like cyberpower, alienware, dell, sager. I've done a month and a half worth of research before buying this laptop. I've built several alienware laptops before they merged with Dell and I must say, this is a much more affordable and less stressful way of obtaining a high-end laptop. I hope I've answered some of your questions. If anyone has any comments or concerns, please direct it to my main email acc: hieubot85@gmail.com

I will be glad to answer any questions.

Just bought the dv9088ea in the UK to replace my ageing laptop and can report it's the same great deal this side of the pond too. I've been looking for a replacement for my Vaio for about 3 months now and this one beats the others hand down for its spec. For the price it's being virtually given away over here. Am very, very pleased with it.

I ordered a HP dv9000t through the HP Online Store, and chose a custom configuration. After doing a lot of comparison shopping for this model at Fry's and some of the other big computer stores, I estimate I saved over $160 by going directly to HP.

I decided on HP because I've had such good luck with their business class notebooks (nc8230), and so far I am not disappointed with the dv9000t.

Pros:
- Beautiful 17-inch screen that is bright, but has excellent black levels.
- Speedy Core 2 processor
- Nvida 7600 graphics are good enough to handle Half-Life 2 and Far Cry at full 1680x1050 resolution with all features turned on
- Good sounding speakers
- Nice feel to trackpad
- 2 to 3 hour battery life with stock 8-cell battery
- Free upgrade to WinXP Media Center 2005 seems to include almost all of the functionality of WinXP Pro w/o the $60 upgrade price. I poked around a bit - MCE reports itself as WinXP Pro

Cons:
- Touch sensitive volume buttons sometimes don't register
- Expansion Port 3 connector for the QuickDock breakout box is very hard to connect to laptop (difficult to lineup)
- Second monitor,VGA output from QuickDock is fuzzy, not very sharp
- Fingerprints, fingerprints, fingerprints (you will make use of the polishing cloth)
- Lots of crapware that takes time to unload, including lots of small programs that run at WinXP startup (i.e. Why do I have to run an InstallShield update notification program that phones home to Macrovision? When was the last time you cared about the version of InstallShiel you had).

Recommendations:
(1) Get the T7XXX series of Core 2 processors - I got the 1.83Ghz (T5600) CPU, and the T7xxxx has a much larger cache (2MB vs 4MB)

(2) Order the unit with a full 512MB of video RAM for the Nvidia 7600. I saw some speculation online that the 7600 RAM was upgradable on this laptop, but apparently it is not.

(3) This loptop can hold 2 hard drives. The standard 80GB hard-drive is paritioned as 60GB/20GB. The 20GB drive holds the recovery disk OS image. I would opt for a second hard-drive for extra storage. HP's prices for the second drive seem to be in-line with what is available on NewEgg.

(4) Pay for the cheap upgrades - get the $10 Bluetooth upgrade, the $29 web cam, and the $14.99 ExpressCard remote control. I like each of them.

(5) Don't buy any of the supplimental software HP has at checkout, or activate the trial Norton products that come with the laptop. You can find things free or cheaper elsewhere.

(6) Be patient and dilligent in keeping tabs on HP. There have been problems getting the Core 2 processors from Intel, so my unit was delayed at least 5 days. Also, HP has a 30 day price protection policy against items purchased online. In the 10 days I had my laptop, the price for the same configuration dropped by $60. Call them, and they credit you the difference.

So to summarize; beautiful looking, fast performing laptop that fills the desktop-replacement/ entertainment category well. I fully recommend it. You get a lot of features that cost $500-600 dollars more in competing brands.

Rohit said:

What about the imprint designs on the screen and the palm rest? Are they permanent or can be wiped off with a tissue?
Overall, its a great laptop..I am thinking of buying one..with everything maxed out..but i am also thinking of buying sony vaio ar series or the macbook pro intel c2d..lets see!

I have been looking into buy a dv9000t to replace my Comcrap(Compaq R3000)and have a few questions about it

1.Is the 512mb GO 7600 any good? what can it play(games)?

2.How is the TV tuner package?

3.Is the 1650x1050 screen a clear smooth image?

4.Is the Dual hard drive step up any fast then a single hard drive?

5.Did you get the High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery? if so how long does it last?

6.Hows the sound quality?

Ian Keith said:

To answer some of the above.

1. I have found the GO 7600 works great, although I do not play games such as oblivion on my laptop (I have a 360) last night I played Age of Empires with every graphic option on full and at 1440x900 and it ran a hell of a lot smoother than my old p4 3.2 w/ 256mb graphics 5xxx series desktop with half of the graphic options turned on and only 1024x768.

3. I personally went for the 1440x900 screen with Ultra Bright and am very glad I did, yes it would have been nice to have the extra space but the bright screen and extra Gaum (or whatever it is, makes pictures and games look incredibly crisp and probably better looking and faster than the 1650 screen.

4. Not sure about speed, but I like having the 3 drives (2 on one with XP recovery) and the seperate drive where I keep music etc to keep the main hard drive farely free so it doesn't get bogged down. I would recommend getting the XP recovery dvd's otherwise you lose 12gb of space (I got the DVD so deleted the recovery).

6. Sound quality is pretty good for a laptop IMO.

PS I have the 2ghz chip.

Valli said:

Check out costco.com for the best price on the 9000t. You can fully customize and get Costco's great price.

I am confused about the difference between XP Pro and XP Media Center. Can you get XP Pro and then add the features you need for XP Media Center? When I ordered the TV tuner, the customizer wanted me to choose XP Media Center.

Natalie said:

Hi,
I've been researching on getting a notebook and so far my choice is down to the Dell latest, Toshiba and HP Pavillion. Would someone please tell me how the webcam works on the HP, how the soundcard sounds, how is the screen resolution and any other thing that can give me a ligth into the HP. I'm so nervous because this will be my first notebook, i don't want to make the wrong decision.

How many hours does the...

1) 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

2) High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Also, do you have to buy dvd burning software if you select the tv tuner or does it come with, if yes what program?

Anand said:

Appreciable efforts. I am still in the dilema for this and XPS M1710. But this guy seems way too good.

Juss said:

How many seconds does it take for your dv9000 to fully login to your user?

Is there a slot in the side of the laptop for the laptop's remote control? (not the tv tuner one)

An answer to my last question in regards to the life of the battery is still pending.

Zandro said:

I'm in the same situation as Juss. I'm thinking of whether to get this or the XPS M1710. But the price difference it a lot and i think HP (for the price) is a great value.

Matt said:

I'm looking at this laptop as a long-term solution for my computing needs (about 4 years while at Uni), so I'd really like to know what the build quality and construction is like. (eg In comparison to a HP business model laptop)

Steve said:

I just bought the dv9030us from Circuit City and the %15 restocking fee has stopped me from opening the box until I decided if I like the smaller shift key than on the 8000 series. I actually cant believe no one has commented on that already. I have looked at the 9000's for a few days and the fit and finish doesnt seem to be first class like the 8000's. Opinions?

Syd said:

This is a pretty sweet deal. Adding the free 1 gig ram and up grading the harddrive and a processor, it comes under $1200 !

Bob Mitchell said:

Looks really nice. Ben, you're a Sony Vegas user... have you used this laptop yet for any editing?

Adeleine Whitman said:

I just got this computer, and it should be on it's way in the mail soon. Awesome. I deeply regret not spending an extra 30 bucks for the TV tuner.

ronnie said:

hello gys does hp pavilion 9000t can be used for avid video editing and is there a option for fingerprint reader please let me know i will be waiting thanks ron

Juss said:

An option for fingerprint reader?? What?

Juss said:

Is the dv9000 windows vista compatible?

Paul said:

Yes, the dv9000 is Windows vista compatible

Morten said:

answer to whitman!

the only option to have fingerprint connect is if you got one with USB.
I got a fingerprint reader attached to my HP 9045, and it works exelent, but it is trough a USB cabel.
I think the laptop is powerfull enough to run avid video editing easily.

Juss said:

Is there a slot in the side of the laptop for the "HP Mobile Remote Control"?

What's the highest resolution of the video card in this notebook with an external monitor? I have a Dell 24" LCD screen, and I'm not buying any computer whose video card doesn't support 1920x1200. I can live with the smaller built-in screen, but when I attach my external monitor, it must be able to run at full resolution.

Mike said:

I bought this laptop about a month or so ago, and now, when i turn it on, it just turns itself off, before i can even get to the start screen, the laptop just continously restarts itself when i try to turn it on.

Henk said:

The Laptop gets in:
3dMark 06 @1280*800: 2181pnts
3dMark 05 @1024*768: 3600pnts
Those scores are realised with the DV9085ea(T5500, 2048ddr, geforce 7600 512Mb videoram)
I have the laptop one month, and i'm very happy with the laptop.

This and all HP notebooks now seem to be shipping with Vista pre-installed.

This is my notebook-to-be. Thanks for the info.

Any reactions after a couple month's worth of use?

Sinisa said:

Got one yesterday, and please note that web cam will not work with current Vista driver. Moved from Toshiba to HP and disappointed regarding this ! They had many months to get this driver and this should not be acceptable. Go in the store that has Vista and try it out…. There is no shortcut to run it and if you go to move maker and try to run capture video from there (Ctrl + R), it will give you error :) Any HP that runs Vista will have this problem with web cam :)

mekael said:

I ordered mine couple of weeks and was shipped more then a week ago & is stuck with customs in Indiana. They are saying that hp scrwed up by not providing proper documentation for it. They have few pallets of hp stuff stuck over there. This is my first time with hp , i have been a thinkpad user before. Lets see how it goes, This waiting is aggravating. Anyone having the same problem ?

Brenda said:

hey guys, i just bought one of this ladies and the problem that i have is that i cannot use the web cam. Does anyone knows how to do this?? please help me out, I am lost

Sinisa said:

Hi Brenda, two posts above yours you will find my post indicating that if you are running Vista you will not be able to use webcam on any HP laptop. I have called HP and they have confirmed this and their only explanation is that Vista is new and they did not have a chance to get all drivers yet. So if you purchase HP laptop with Vista please be aware that webcam will not work !!!!
Never the less you should call them also and keep pressure on them, otherwise it could be months before we will have full functional laptop, which ins unacceptable for me !!!

Joshua said:

I just got mine with vista and the webcam seems to work for me, at least the one time I tried it with Windows Messenger. I love this laptop

Sinisa said:

It works occasionally, and sometimes it requires several re-boots to get it working. It is very inconsistent and it does not work in some other applications such as Skype…

How long did it take them to build/ship yours? I build mine on the 30th and am wondering how long it is going to take for them to ship.

StarfleetCaptain said:

I ordered mine on the 28th of January, but had to go through 2 days of verifications, phone calls, and customer service disagreements with people who don't speak English in order to get my order approved. So, really it was officially ordered and approved on the 30th of January, with an estimated ship date of 02/08/2007. How long did you guys have to wait before shipping?

Specs:

- Vista Home Premium
-AMD Turion 64x2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz/1mb cache)
-2.0 GB DDR2 RAM
-160 GB HD
-Pre-N/a/b/g WLAN with Bluetooth
-256 mb NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 GPU
- webcam and microphone
- expresscard TV Tuner w/ remote
- LightScribe DVD+/-RW with Double Layer dirve
- 17 inch WSXGA Bright View monitor (1680 x 1050)
- High Capacity 8 cell battery

Also, anyone knows why HP doesn't offer the 512mb Geforce card with AMD build Notebooks? (dv9000z)

And why doesn't HP offer thr Pre-N wireless spec on Intel build notebooks? (dv9000t)

Pyrostic said:

Well I ordered mine/got it approved on January 30th also. I'm just wondering on how long after you ordered that it took to ship. It said my estimated ship day was February 8th, (tomorrow) and that my shipping is estimated at 4 days.

Well "Tomorrow" (02/08/2007) is apon us now, and as of 3:58 pm CST, HP still has my computer listed as "Order In Production (Estimated to ship on February 8, 2007)" what gives?

If you order your dv9000t with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, Office 2007 Professional, and Norton Internet Security 2007, besides Windows Vista obviously coming pre-installed, will Office 2007 and NIS 2007 come pre-installed too? Most important, will the buyer receive each of these apps on a seperate CD/DVD so they can perform their own custom installation down the road if they want to format, nuke the HP bloatware, and reinstall everyting. Or, must they use the system restore disk or partition?

Mine is also a (nearly) maxxed out system with Vista Ultimate. The pre-installed programs, though, are mostly shortcuts on the desktop, which you can simply delete. Hey! All laptops these days come with 110-220 compatibility. I bought the same laptop in US around mid Jan 2007. Worked on it in london all thru feburary and now in India. No problems! However, you may need to buy USA to UK plug.

I have a question too. I bought the laptop with XP Home addition. Later I ordered VISTA online. I have installed the same its working smooth, except I cant find any software to burn DVDs. Anyone can help?

Hello,

As you can tell with the rank in front of my name I am in the Army. I bought a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4014 last year before deploying to Iraq. I was in a hurry because i had only a couple of days before i deployed so i went to my PX on the base where i am Stationed in the USA. Well to my dissapointment i have had nothing but problems with it. The main problem Ive been having has to deal with the DVD/CD rom burner that comes with it.(burning out) I sent it into repaires and did'nt get it back till almost 4 months later. 2 months after getting it back WHAMMO same problem. Now im disgusted with Toshiba and will no longer deal with them. As i have to re-send it in to get repaired AGAIN. Well as i have had enough i decided to look for another laptop except this time mainly for gaming as the toshiba does not permit high graphics definition games cause of its yucky chipset built in.

So after several weeks of looking, i fell onto the HP DV9000T. MMMMMM, As it is fully upgradable and exactly what im looking for in a laptop. Ive decided before purchase to surf the web and look at reviews of this machine.

This site is mainly responsable for my descision in the purchase in which i bought it on the 26 of April. Thanks everyone for the details and possible questions and answers that have been posted as they are concerns pretty much for everyone.

My configuation is:

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)-(no since in 64-bit cause there are hardly any progs. out there for 64bit comps...) (Yuck, it came with it unfortunately can not get XP with it anymore. I have an XP CD that i will use to reinstall a new OS. well i might give vista a month before i decide to change just to se how things work out.Besides opted for the recovery disc too just in case XP doesnt work out.)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
- 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
- 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 ( MMMMM, dreaming already)
- FREE Upgrade: HP Imprint Finish/Microphone/Webcam
- 40% off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
- 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive ( yeah i know i should of opted for a higher drive, but i have a 250G external and didnt see why i should opt for more.)
- FREE Upgrade - LightScribe DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer ( uhh yeah what ever that is, thought i might give the image thingy a try.)
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
- HP Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook (lot of good that will do me over here i dont speak Arabic *pics up local channels* will be interesting)
- 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery ( yeah took an extra batterie as i am always on the road over here)
- Microsoft(R) Works 8.0
- System Recovery DVD w/Windows Vista Home Premium

Well here it is.. this is what ive ordered. Hopefully this will not be as painfull as the toshiba has been. And can finally get down to some seriouse gaming.. Uhhh yeah well need something to pass the time by on my down time...

The only bad thing is that it takes so dang long to Build/Ship as it has to go to my house first state side then my wife will send it to me with everything else i have ordered for it ( laptop cooling system-just in case of over heating) so should get to me by the end of May. uhhhh hopefully if things go good and are not delayed at the manufactures warehouse...uhh IN CHINA lol. will keep you all posted.. Thanks again for the tips and what ever else...

Helloooo I have one quastion. How many need days to laptop HP dv9000t come in Europe if order on HP web site? Thanks!

PFC Robert Montgomery said:

Hello me again,

Well have some good news, my laptop arrived at my house in the states a weeks earlier then it was supposed to be.. My wife sent it out to me in Iraq the same day. so hopefully ill have it by the end of next week. CAN'T WAIT..

Alisa, to answer your question. I imagine it takes about the same amount of time to arrive in Europe as it would for the USA. Which means after your order is accepted through their verification services (2 Days) it will take about a week to build (5 business days generally)then for the shipping anywhere between 4 to 7 business days before it arrives via FED EX.. It also will depend on the customs ( border controls) it needs to go through, which it could take up to 2 days. You might get lucky because apparently the chinese are working fast on these computers and getting them shipped out within about 5 days after the order is passed.

Another question for you Alisa. What country are you from? I lived in France for about Ten years.

Hope i could of been of use to you. And thanks everyone again for posting about this laptop. Hopefully i will not regret it.

What's the sound quality like on the 9000t ?

I was just wondering if anybody else notices the time it takes from turning on your laptop cold to the time you can go about your regular business on the laptop. I'm new to a high-end product like the dv9000t (got it for my graduation), and I panic whenever a fan turns on or I hear any type of noise coming from it. I bought the expansion base so it's propped up, so my concerns are:
-how long should it take to boot up? (I'm running 2 GB RAM with a 2 GHZ Dual Core 2 processor)
-Is it good that my fan is on most of the time it's in use?
-Should it be making any noises that are audible?

Does anyone know if the Nvidia Go 7400 is much worse than the Nvidia Go 7600? Thanks.

PFC Robert Montgomery said:

Hello again, well a bit late..

I finally got my new laptop actually about 2 weeks ago now, but because of my current situation i could not post my reply on this site..

When i recieved my comp i was happy (lol) very happy. of course like everyone does i rushed back to my room to set it up and watch how it works. to my surprise everything went well, so i started configuring my comp by putting my music, pics and all the good ole personal stuff. Plus i decided to install the TV card as well and try it out.. well at the end of the evening i shut it off and went to bed, no problem here.

The next day when i finished my shift i came back and decided to play with my new toy. To my surprise VISTA CRASHED.. i couldnt do anything of my knowledge to even get into the admin to reboot up in the last good config. Vista wouldnt do a thing soooooo i decided to reinstall vista. To my surprise it installed with no problem. well of course i was carefull next, to what i had to do. i didnt install the tv card until i did a full update on vista ( highly recomended) then the drivers of all of the components. and VOILA no problem.. Vista has worked ever since with no difficulties what so ever. and i can say that the games ive installed work GREAT.. NWN2, Dungeon Lords, and a couple of other RPG that i love so much... after the game updates vista has had no problem running them.. Even though it is still a complete resource hog...

I really do not have much to say bad or good about this machine as i am not really to picky about how things are with it.. as long as it serves my purpose all is well...

Now to help on answering some of the questions.... Like i said sorry i couldnt get to you guys sooner....

Alisa, to answer you worries.. I am sorry it is taking so long, but as Croatia is a developing country still today. And after its history in the past few years. I would say that your computer is most likely blocked at your local customs office because it most likely is missing one form or another to pass its inspection. So if i were you i would look up the shipping information that HP sales service has sent you on you computer and see if it has been shipped or blocked at your local customs.. Sorry for the inconvieniance.

matthieu, the sound quality for a laptop can be some what derranging if you are not used to them. they are not really ment to be like a base cannon or high definition home theater system. On the 9000t it is average and not to bad. i would recomend though using a headset or a laptop sound system to boost its sound in noisy environments though, as i have done. Dont expect to be the light of the party with a laptop sound system...

Liam, DON'T Pannic lol..VISTA is a resource hog and may seem a little slower at boot then any other system. with my computer though after i did all the updates for vista and other drivers etc.. the system botted up alot better. plus i am guessing you have the same machine as me so dont worry.. worse comes to worse if you think Vista sucks then try to go back to XP to see if there is a difference...also, It is completely normal if your fans turn on quite a bit while using this beautiful beast of a laptop.. do not worry, the problem as mentioned above in other posts, is that it was not really meant to hold so much power and so does heat up quite a bit..I wouldnt leave it on your legs for to long while gameing... so if your fans do come on i wouldnt worry to much about them i WOULD worry if they DONT come on at all though.. The other thing i find a little lowder then the fans are or is the CD/DVD player as it kicks in. LOL sounds like it is going to launch some kind of missile or something...

Eugene, well i believe the major difference is that the 7400 has only 256mb of mem and the 7600 has both options of 256mb/512mb. other then that you would have to try to compare the frames per minute on variouse sites that do comparrisons on this subject. i do beleive though that the 7400 isnt to bad at all. either way you go, you should be able to play all modern games that come out today on it.. me perso. i chose the 7600 512mb so like this i will not have to worry about a video card for quite awhile...

Well this will be most likely my last post on this site as i have recieved my computer and all is well (for the moment) i hope i have been some help for all of you.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but... I have a dv2125nr I want to hook up to the TV as an output. Everyone I asked @ work (Best Buy) told me to buy a VGA cable for the best quality. I have a VGA to female RCA and S-video... When I plug it in nothing happens. Do I need to change a setting or two on the laptop? Or will this just not work at all? If someone could tell me anything they know about this, that'd be great. Thanks.

I have a HP dv9233 but I think it has a problem. The screen has more intense brightness at the bottom than at the top of display. It's not an OS or driver issue because since the BIOS start up screen it's possible to see the difference between lightness. It's like a permanent gradient of light over the screen. Could someone else with a 9000 series Pavilion confirm if this light effect is default or it`s a problem? If I was in US or Europe, it would be easy to check it directly with HP. But I live in Brazil, this is somewhat more complicated as local HP does not have a country-wide technical support.

i got a dv 6000 and it's perfect, only thing that bothers me is that i have only 2 usb ports and one of them is a bit from the power cord, so i can't plug in anything wider than a regular usb cord, a bit shitty.

it's just a comment...

Johnny said:

Just to let everyone know, when I bought my dv9000 (not sure which letter because the laptop doesn't say) from Future Shop (Canada), the guy that helped me and my dad said that if anyone used any illegal or copied or anything that is not a original copy of anything Microsoft Related on a Genuine Vista machine, Microsoft locks up your Vista, so you can't use it, forcing you to use the Recovery disc. Just wanted to say some friendly advice to people who like to use illegal Microsoft stuff. If you guys wanna use illegal Microsoft stuff, use it on a computer that's non-Vista.

Johnny said:

Oh, and the guy also said that you can't install another operating system on the dv9000 . Not sure if that's true, but to what I see, the laptop is REALLY restricted. Only thing that concerned my mom was that the battery life lasts so short...

I have a DV9233 and was wondering if the DVD will play DVD's outside windows? My DV1000 used to do , but it had a small partition set up for Quickplay, so if you had a DVD in the drive, and pressed the DVD button, then it would fire up and play the film without going into the OS. With it having a HDMi output, I thought I could get away without buying a HD ready DVD player. Does anybody have this issue, or is it something that I'm doing?? Any response would be great before I shell out on a HD-DVD player for no reason.
Cheers

Thanks for the kind words. We don't currently have a .wmv feed. As soon as Feedburner allows you to create feeds based on content type, we'll be all over it!

The questions link is just under the picture of the mug in the 'links' section of the page. We should probably make this more prominent, however. Thanks for the heads-up.

Not sure what's happening with the typekey stuff, but we currently don't require logging in to leave comments.
